Privacy Policy
Your privacy is our priority. This policy outlines how Tiptree collects, uses, and protects your information to build a trusted professional reputation network.

1. Information We Collect
Account Information: When you create an account, we collect your name, email address, profile photo, and brief biography. If you link your account to a business profile, we collect your business affiliation details.
Identity Verification Data (KYC): For verified accounts, paid custom handles, and higher transaction limits, we collect highly sensitive identity information required for compliance and fraud prevention. This includes government-issued ID numbers (such as National ID, Driver's License, Passport, Voter's Card, BVN, or NIN), your full legal name, date of birth, and uploaded ID documents. We also collect a live 5-15 second selfie video challenge.
Financial Information: We collect payment and payout details through our secure partners (e.g., Flutterwave). This includes transaction histories, tip amounts, card origin data (via IP and authorization country codes), and bank/mobile money account details for withdrawals.
Platform Usage & Reviews: We collect the content of micro-reviews you write or receive, the tags applied, your TrustScore, and anonymized sender analytics for business dashboards. We also log IP addresses and user agents for security, velocity-limiting, and fraud-detection purposes.
2. How We Use Information
Providing the Service: We use your information to facilitate tips, process payouts, and generate your shareable tipping link and QR code.
TrustScore Calculation: Your micro-reviews and tip transaction histories feed directly into our Bayesian TrustScore algorithm. Reviews are public, and transaction-backed reviews carry more weight to ensure an authentic professional reputation.
Compliance & Risk Mitigation: Your IP address, device footprint, and identity verification data are used to enforce velocity limits, detect charge retry storms, prevent money laundering, and ensure compliance with international financial regulations.
3. Data Retention and Deletion
Selfie Videos: To minimize risk, selfie video recordings used during identity verification are automatically deleted from our servers 90 days post-verification.
ID Numbers: Government ID numbers (such as BVN or NIN) are stored encrypted at rest using AES-256 encryption. They are never displayed in full on any interface, even to the user.
Financial Ledgers: Transaction records, tip ledgers, and fee variance entries are retained indefinitely as required by financial regulations and to ensure the immutable integrity of the TrustScore system.
4. Sharing of Information
Public Profiles: Your display name, profile photo, bio, TrustScore, and micro-reviews are visible to the public. On business pages, anonymized tipping data is shared with your business manager via the dashboard.
Third-Party Processors: We share necessary transaction data with our payment processors (like Flutterwave) to settle charges and payouts. This includes sharing sender entity details for certain international transfers (e.g., EUR/GBP SEPA payouts).
Legal Compliance: We may disclose information if required by law, subpoena, or to protect the safety, rights, and property of Tiptree, our users, or the public.
