Terms of Service
Welcome to Tiptree, the professional reputation and tipping platform. Please read these terms carefully before using our services.
You're viewing an archived version (v1.1) of this document. Read the current version (v1.2).
1. Acceptance of Terms
By accessing or using the Tiptree platform (including tiptree.page and associated applications), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. Tiptree provides a platform for professionals, service workers, creators, and businesses to receive tips and build a portable professional reputation via our TrustScore system.
2. Account Types and Verification
Tiptree offers Guest (unregistered) and registered accounts. Guests may send tips subject to platform limits. Creating an account requires email verification and includes a free auto-generated handle.
Registered accounts may rent custom handles (personal, link, team, event, and domain names) for a recurring fee. Custom domain handles require a verified profile. Purchasing a paid product mandates strict identity verification (KYC/AML), which includes providing government-issued identification (National ID, Passport, BVN, NIN, etc.) and submitting a live 5-15 second selfie video challenge.
Tiptree reserves the right to suspend, restrict, or ban accounts that fail compliance checks, engage in fraudulent behavior, or violate our Community Standards. Restricted accounts cannot receive tips or request payouts.
3. Tipping, Fees, and Payouts
Platform Fees: Senders always pay exactly the displayed tip amount — Tiptree deducts a fee from each processed tip to cover payment processing and platform maintenance, and recipients are credited the remainder. For domestic transactions (e.g., Nigerian Naira cards), the fee is 5.0% plus a fixed ₦100. For international cards or non-NGN currencies, the fee is 7.0% plus a fixed currency equivalent. Fees are floored at the estimated processor cost.
Tip Limits: Senders are subject to daily and per-transaction caps based on their verification status and origin IP. Recipients are subject to maximum tip caps based on their verification tier and platform ceilings (e.g., a hard platform ceiling applies to comply with FATF CDD triggers).
